Honor the men and women who flew and trained at Luke Field, Arizona, during World War II.

Flying Sergeants

Of Luke Field’s 2,450 graduates between Class 42-E and Class 42-K, 354 students (14.4%) did not qualify for a commission. Upon graduation, they received their wings. One of those graduates was given the non-commissioned rank of Technical Sergeant. All the rest were given the non-commissioned rank of Staff Sergeant. Later in the war, those who did not qualify for a commission graduated as Flight Officers. At that time previously graduated Flying Sergeants were promoted to Flight Officer or 2nd Lieutenant.
