Memorials

Over the years, various groups have created a number of memorials to Lt. Frank Luke, Jr., the first United States Army/Air Force aviator to be awarded the Medal of Honor.

In France, there are two memorials to Frank Luke, Jr. The smaller and probably better known one is his grave at the Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial. (United States Government photo)

The larger one is in the village of Murvaux, France. Frank Luke, Jr. died in a field in Murvaux and initially buried in its cemetery. No photo currently available.

The State of Arizona honored Frank Luke with a statue of him in front of the state capital building. This photo was taken on September 26, 2018, during a ceremony to mark the 100th anniversary of the death Lt. Frank Luke Jr. The flyover was composed of two F-35A Lightning IIs and two F-16 Fighting Falcons from Luke Air Force Base to honor Lt. Frank Luke Jr. (Photo by Airman 1st Class Aspen Reid)

The other is to Frank Luke, Jr., himself, and consists of a piece of art representing his SPAD XIII and a plaque. (Photo by lukefieldzaz.com)

Probably the most heart felt memorial to Frank Luke, Jr. is the painting of him by his sister Eva. (US Air Force photo)
